The concentration of associated radionuclides in some minerals and raw materials is relatively high in the zircon and zirconia industry, and it is too small to be of commercial value. But its existence may require supervision and control by the regulatory body concerning the impact on the environment during the production. The radioactive waste water release during the production of zirconium oxychloride is the focus of radiation environment supervision of the whole zirconium industry. Combing the status quo and analyzing the peck points are beneficial to the development of the radiation environmental supervision of the industry. The discharge of radioactive waste water during zirconium oxychloride production was analyzed, and the problems in the environmental supervision of radiation were reviewed. Some suggestions for improvement such as radioactive waste water treatment separately and standard formulation for radioactive control, were put forward in the end.
