Abstract:The Mg1-xScxNi (x=0, 0.01) hydrogen storage alloys were prepared by mechanical alloying. The XRD test results showed that the alloys were amorphous alloys. The XPS test results indicated that the addition of Sc weakened the degree of oxidation on the alloy surface, and increased the atom ratio of Ni/Mg at the alloy powders’ surface. The electrochemical test results showed that the addiction of Sc improved the electrochemical properties of the alloy electrodes. The discharge capacity, the cycle capacity retention rate S10, HRD200, the exchange current density I0 and the limited current density IL of Mg0.99Sc0.01Ni alloy electrodes were 10.5%, 14.7%, 30.4%, 202.7% and 77.8% higher than that of MgNi alloy electrodes’ , respectively
