Abstract:
2195-T8 and 2219-T6 sheets were successfully welded in the current research. With constant tool rotation speed (TRS), effects of travelling speed (TS) and advancing side material (AS material) on the mechanical properties of the joint were studied. The results indicate that higher travelling speed improves the mechanical properties of the FSW joint. Whichever the AS material was, fracture always occurred at the boundary of the welding nugget zone (WNZ)/thermomechanical affected zone (TMAZ) to the 2219 side. Longitudinal tensile tests show that mechanical property of the WNZ is better than that at the boundary of WNZ/TMAZ to the 2219 size.
